Our Vision

The vision of the New Jersey District of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod is to enable mission and outreach so that congregations will motivate, educate and equip members to build relationships with the lost for the purpose of Connecting People to Jesus.

The New Jersey District consists of 54 congregations, 11,435 baptized members, 9,619 confirmed members, and 23 preschools.

Our Origin

The New Jersey District is part of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).  The St. Louis-based Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, founded in 1847, has 2.4 million baptized members in 6,170 congregations served by more than 9,000 pastors.  The church, one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, owns and operates the KFUO radio stations, two seminaries, 10 colleges and universities, and one of the largest Protestant parochial school systems in America.  The LCMS is in full doctrinal fellowship with 30 other confessional Lutheran church bodies on six continents, supports more than 800 missionaries in some 90 countries around the globe, and is a founding partner of Lutheran Services in America, a social ministry organization serving one in every 50 Americans.

The word “Synod” in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod comes from the Greek words that mean “walking together.” It has rich meaning in our church body because the congregations voluntarily choose to belong to the Synod. Diverse in their service, these congregations hold to a shared confession of Jesus Christ as taught in Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions.

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Mission Statement

In grateful response to God’s grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacraments, the mission of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod is vigorously to make known the love of Christ by word and deed within our churches, communities, and the world.
